FREE KIDNEY SCREENINGS Saturday June 25
from 8-11pm, the Kidney Foundation of Indiana and Saint Joseph County Minority Health Coalition will provide FREE kidney screenings for up to 120 people.  The Kidney Early Evaluation program or KEEP is a health screening program designed to identify individuals at increased risk for Kidney disease and encourage them to seek further evaluation and a follow-up from physician.

KEEP is a free program that focuses on high risk individuals-those with known diabetes or chronic disease. With a focus on reaching out to minority communities, such as Hispanics and African Americans, who are at greater risk for developing Kidney disease.
The actual KEEP screening involves participants rotating through eight different stations. Participants arriving at the program do sign a consent form and complete a Screening questionnaire, which takes approximately 10-15 min. Blood pressure and weight/height measurement are performed on all attendees. Participants have sample of their blood and Urine taken to test the signs of diabetes, anemia, high cholesterol and Kidney disease.
Because the nature of these tests are confidential results are discussed, screening facilities will offer privacy for participants, as well as pleasant, sanitary environment. Screenings are conducted according to State and Federal laws. The known (blood glucose, blood pressure and urine test) are reviewed on site by a physician or qualified medical professional. Individuals whose tests are outside the normal range are encouraged to follow up with a physician. Individuals are given a copy of their tests results along with a letter to present to their physician which indicates the reason for referral. The participants will receive their lab results from our National office in approximately six weeks. Also, educational materials about Kidney disease, hypertension, and diabetes are available to all screening participants.

Individuals are asked to pre-register by calling the office at 574-232-4234 or by email at karl.nichols@stjoe-minorityhealth.org.  Participants are urged to fast but it is not required.  Please pass this information on to your clients, networks, friends, families or congregations.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
