THE NEXT MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY FORUM FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT —
TUESDAY, APRIL 15, 2014 at 7 PM at the LASALLE BRANCH LIBRARY (3232 W Ardmore Trail, SB).
April 15 is TAX DAY for 2014 — a good time to discuss the U.S. and Indiana Income Taxes.
Five members of the Community Forum's Board of Directors have served as certified tax preparers for the 2014 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. John Hagen, Ruth Hemingway, Teresa Marcy, Barbara Turner and Linda Wolfson will share information and lead a discussion about income taxes. The questions they will discuss include:
— How do federal tax credits support the "social safety-net" for low-income workers?
— What are examples of how state and federal tax codes are used to implement government policy decisions?
— What proposals for tax reform are currently on the table — from the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee and from President Obama?
Joining the panel will be Board member (and economist) Marty Wolfson who will add information about how the tax codes impact our country's growing income inequality.
The final focus of our "Tax Day" program will be opportunities to act, individually and collectively, to support the positive and oppose the negative parts of our tax system.
