Aug 25: Housing is a Human Right

Housing is a Human Right

COVID – 19 & its economic consequences have magnified a long-existing threat to housing security in Michiana, especially for low-income residents.  Emergency funding through the American Recovery Act of 2021 and temporary moratoriums on evictions have provided temporary relief for some.  However, the central problem remains. There is insufficient affordable housing in our community.

On WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25, AT 6:30 P.M.
JUDY FOX, Director of the Economic Justice Clinic,
& Clinical Professor of Law, University of Notre Dame,
will discuss the availability of affordable housing in St. Joseph County.

For more than two decades Judy and her students have represented low-income clients on housing matters, including eviction.  She will discuss help that is available for renters and for homeowners having trouble paying their mortgages, including a growing number of Senior residents.  She also will describe the developing eviction crisis in our community.

This is the first in a series of discussions about safe and affordable housing for St. Joseph County residents, sponsored by the

Community Forum for Economic Justice
Civil Rights Heritage Center
