COMMUNITY MEETING: "PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE: HOW WILL GOVERNMENT CUT-BACKS AFFECT YOU?"
Proposals in the 2011-12 Federal and Indiana State Budgets could have a significant impact on programs and services that affect the quality of life in our community. The Financial Stability Committee of the United Way of St. Joseph County is sponsoring a special community forum on Tuesday, May 17, from 6 – 8 PM in the Humphrey Multimedia Room of the Main Street Library (304 S. Main, SB).
The goal is to initiate dialogue about the effects of proposed cuts in funding on local social and community services. Federal, state and local elected officials will present an overview of the current fiscal landscape, followed by a brainstorming session to develop a united community response.
Local partner organizations, including the Community Forum for Economic Development, are co-hosting this program. Other planning participants include REAL Services, Work One, Stone Soup Community, the Notre Dame Legal Aid Clinic and the Housing Authority of South Bend. The Community Forum for Economic Development encourages all of our members and all those who have attended our previous programs and activities to participate in this important community dialogue.

On Wednesday, May 11, from 8:30 AM until 1 PM, the Fair Pay Initiative Forum will be held at the Palais Royale (105 W. Colfax Avenue). It is being sponsored by the EEOC and the South Bend Human Rights Commission. Lilly Ledbetter will be the guest speaker for the Forum.
The event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is requested.
