Aug 9: Public hearing on tax abatement ordinance rescheduled

The South Bend Council’s Community and Economic Development Committee met on Tuesday, June 8, to discuss the proposed tax abatement ordinance.  The Committee heard a presentation on the ordinance by Mayor Steve Luecke.  It also heard from representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Project Future, who asked the Council to postpone formal action on the ordinance for 60 days.  The Council informally agreed to reschedule its planned public hearing and vote on the ordinance from June 28 to Monday, August 9.

The tax abatement ordinance will be discussed at the next meeting of the Community Forum for Economic Development, on Tuesday, June 15, at 7 PM at the LaSalle Branch Library (3232 West Ardmore Trail).  The future of the LaSalle Library will also be discussed at this meeting.  St. Joseph County Public Library Director Donald Napoli will join us for the discussion.
